UK issues heat health alerts as Belgium and Germany brace for renewed high temperatures

The UK Health Security Agency issued yellow heat health alerts across central and southern England on Friday, lasting through Sunday morning, as temperatures are forecast to reach 30C (86F) in parts of the country. The warnings come after persistent heatwave conditions, with Usk in Monmouthshire and Exeter in Devon enduring 19 consecutive days of heat. A drought was officially declared for large parts of north and mid-Wales on Thursday, and hosepipe bans remain in force for millions of customers.

In Belgium, the ozone and heat plan warning phase has been reactivated, with showers expected Sunday before heat returns midweek, reaching up to 33C on Wednesday.

Germany faces a similar pattern, with summer warmth up to 29C on Saturday in Lower Saxony and Bremen, followed by rain, showers and thunderstorms on Sunday before sunshine returns by Tuesday with highs of 24 to 27C.
