Thorning Jørgensen takes silver as para-dressage world championships open in Aachen

Denmark's Tobias Thorning Jørgensen won silver in para-dressage at the World Championships in Aachen, posting a score of 75.100 in Grand Prix A. The Netherlands' Rixt van der Horst claimed gold with 77.534, while Italy's Francesca Salvadè took bronze. Fellow Dane Sandra Lynge Eriksen finished ninth with 71.467.

The championships run from August 19 to 23 in Aachen, Germany. In the Grade V event, Britain's Sophie Wells won with 74.949 percent, ahead of the Netherlands' Britney de Jong and Germany's Regine Mispelkamp. Belgium's Kevin Van Ham and Francesca Vanhoeck placed 11th and 12th respectively.

Finland's Jonna Aaltonen set a personal record and finished seventh aboard Laxton for U, a horse that recovered from a deep leg wound sustained in spring to compete. Aaltonen returns to the arena on Saturday.
