A 19-year-old man drowned in the Bistensee lake in northern Germany after falling from a stand-up paddleboard and failing to resurface, authorities said.
The man was paddling with two young women on the lake in the municipality of Ahlefeld-Bistensee, Schleswig-Holstein, when he fell into the water on Tuesday evening. He did not reappear, and emergency services launched a search operation. Firefighters recovered his body roughly three hours after the emergency call.
The two women on the board were uninjured but suffered shock, officials said. Authorities reported no indications of foul play.
