A 28-year-old German woman died on Friday after her paraglider crashed into a tree in the Stubai Valley of Tyrol, Austria. The pilot, from the Schwalm-Eder district in the state of Hesse, fell into a forested area near Neustift and struck a tree around 10 a.m., dying at the scene, authorities said.

Separately, a 24-year-old German man was injured when his canopy collapsed shortly after midday near Pertisau, sending him plummeting roughly 25 metres into Lake Achensee. The man, from North Rhine-Westphalia, was pulled from the water by boaters and airlifted to a hospital in Innsbruck.

Both accidents occurred on the same day in the Austrian Alps, a popular destination for paragliding enthusiasts from neighboring Germany.
