A 61-year-old German man died on Monday after losing control of his paraglider shortly after takeoff from Monte Baldo near Malcesine on Lake Garda. The accident occurred shortly after 5 p.m. local time, and the man succumbed to severe injuries at the scene following a fall from significant height. Italian police have opened an investigation into the cause of the crash.
The incident is the third fatal paragliding accident at Lake Garda since early June 2026, following the deaths of a 37-year-old Swiss national and a 48-year-old German. Separately, two other paragliders died in the Alps over the preceding weekend: a 28-year-old woman from the German state of Hesse in Tyrol and an Italian pilot in South Tyrol.
