Teenager dies after being pulled from sea at Camber Sands beach

· Society GBR

An 18-year-old man has died after getting into difficulty in the sea at Camber Sands beach in East Sussex on Sunday evening. The incident comes as the UK faces its fifth heatwave of the summer, with temperatures expected to reach 36C in parts of the country.

Sussex Police were called to the beach just before 19:00 BST. The man was pulled from the water about 30 minutes later. Two others in the group — a 16-year-old boy and a 24-year-old man — safely returned to shore. The coastguard, the Pett Level lifeboat, and the South East Coast Ambulance Service all responded to the emergency. The three had travelled together to the beach from London.

Police confirmed there were no suspicious circumstances surrounding the death, which will be reviewed by a coroner. Half of England and all of Wales are currently in drought, with amber heat health alerts in place across much of the country.
