A man in his 60s and a woman in her 30s died after being pulled from the sea off Fistral Beach in Newquay, Cornwall, on Sunday evening.

HM Coastguard was called at about 21:30 BST and a major search and rescue response followed, involving rescue teams from Newquay, Padstow and St Agnes, an RNLI lifeboat and a coastguard helicopter. South Western Ambulance Service contacted Devon and Cornwall Police at around 21:45, and both casualties were pronounced dead at the scene. Police confirmed their families have been informed.

The deaths are not being treated as suspicious, and a file will be prepared for HM Coroner. Separately, two men were pulled from the sea at West Wittering in West Sussex the same day, with one dying at the scene and the other hospitalised.
