The Svea Court of Appeal has upheld the convictions of a 23-year-old man and two minors over the death of a 15-year-old boy who accidentally detonated an explosive device on himself in Östberga, south of Stockholm, in August 2025. The teenager died while attempting to carry out a bombing.
The 23-year-old, described as a senior figure in a criminal network in Huddinge, was sentenced to 10 years in prison for instigating the attack. The district court had originally handed him a term of 10 years and 10 months. Two boys, aged 15 and 16, were sentenced to closed youth detention for aiding in aggravated public endangerment.
The appeals court's ruling confirms the district court's findings across all three defendants, concluding the judicial process surrounding one of Sweden's most stark examples of minors being drawn into gang-linked violence.
