Organisers cancelled Stage 3 of the Vuelta a España on Sunday after severe hail and heavy rain forced riders to abandon the race roughly 15 kilometres from the finish in the Pyrenees.
The weather deteriorated sharply during the climb toward Font-Romeu in southern France, pelting the peloton with hail. Race leader Tadej Pogačar and rival Mads Pedersen gestured to halt proceedings, and riders sought shelter in a nearby hotel. After a brief delay, officials confirmed the stage was called off with no winner declared and no podium ceremony held.
Times from the abandoned stage will not count toward the general classification. Pogačar retains the red leader's jersey with a nine-second advantage over Wout van Aert heading into Tuesday's stage in Andorra.
