A large-scale search operation in Spain's Catalan Pyrenees has failed to locate a 56-year-old Belgian paraglider who went missing on Saturday in the Montsec d'Ares mountain area. The man had been staying at a campsite in Àger with fellow paragliders when he left with his equipment for a planned flight and never returned.
His wife raised the alarm from Belgium on Saturday evening after being unable to reach him for several hours. Rescue teams deployed helicopters, drones, and tracker dogs, but the search yielded no results through Sunday or Monday. Authorities remain unsure whether the experienced paraglider, who had no known health issues, actually launched. Àger mayor Mireia Burgués said everything possible was being done to find him.
One theory is that he flew farther than usual into neighbouring Aragon, prompting the Guardia Civil to comb that region as well. Rescue crews are attempting to locate his paragliding equipment to determine his position.
