New Zealand's Ryan Fox won the 2026 Open Championship at Royal Birkdale on Sunday, claiming his first major title with a final-round two-under-par 68 to finish one stroke ahead of American Cameron Young. Fox, 39, birdied the 18th hole to secure victory at the 154th edition of the tournament in Southport.
Ranked world number 56, Fox is the lowest-ranked Open champion since Darren Clarke in 2011 and the second New Zealander to win the Claret Jug after Bob Charles. His comeback from 36 holes was the largest by position in major championship history, anchored by a third-round 62 that tied the record for the lowest round at a men's major. His winning total was 270, earning him a 3.2 million dollar prize.
Denmark's Rasmus Neergaard-Petersen finished tied for ninth.
