Romano Schmid has left Werder Bremen after six years to join Frosinone Calcio, the newly promoted Serie A club, in a deal worth an initial €8.5 million. The German Bundesliga side will also receive potential bonus payments of up to €2 million, and the Austria international has signed a four-year contract.
The midfielder, whose previous deal ran until summer 2027, made 192 competitive appearances for Bremen, scoring 18 goals and providing 35 assists. Fellow Austria international Florian Grillitsch also joined Frosinone on a free transfer from SC Braga, signing a one-year deal.
In a separate move, Austrian defender Stefan Posch completed a permanent transfer to Mainz after spending the second half of last season on loan at the Bundesliga club. Werder Bremen resume competitive action on Aug. 22 with a DFB-Pokal tie against fifth-tier Lüneburger SK Hansa at Hamburg's Millerntor-Stadion.
