The Portuguese government confirmed on Thursday it has received a third technical report on the planned Luís de Camões Airport from concessionaire ANA Aeroportos, advancing a long-delayed infrastructure project estimated to cost 8.5 billion euros. The facility is proposed for the Alcochete military firing range east of Lisbon.
The government, which seeks to reduce both the cost and timeline, is due to receive a financial report by 17 January 2027, with a full project application expected in January 2028. ANA has proposed the airport enter service by mid-2037, potentially as early as late 2036.
To help finance the project, ANA has proposed progressive increases in airport fees at the existing Humberto Delgado Airport between 2026 and 2030, along with a 30-year extension of its concession through 2092.
