The planned Luís de Camões Airport near Lisbon will cost between 7.9 billion and 8.9 billion euros at 2024 prices, ANA Aeroportos de Portugal has estimated, revising an earlier projection of 8.5 billion euros after a technical report was delivered to the government.
Construction is scheduled to begin in 2029 and conclude by 2033, with operations opening from 2035 and a target to conclude works by 2036. The facility will occupy 6,500 hectares across the municipalities of Benavente and Montijo, opening with two runways, 64 boarding gates and a 500,000-square-metre terminal designed for net-zero emissions. Initial capacity is projected at 56 million passengers annually, expandable to 85 million.
A dedicated high-speed rail link through a 5-kilometre tunnel and a new Tagus river crossing will connect passengers to central Lisbon in approximately 20 minutes. The project also includes more than 250 kilometres of new roads. An environmental impact study was submitted in late July 2026.
