A salmonella outbreak linked to imported eggs has killed one person and sickened 207 across the UK, with cases confirmed between 11 August 2025 and 1 August 2026. The UK Health Security Agency ruled out UK-produced eggs as the source, pointing instead to eggs imported and used by food service and catering establishments.
England accounts for 199 of the cases, with six in Scotland and one each in Wales and Northern Ireland. London recorded 47 infections and Yorkshire and the Humber 38. More than a third of affected people required hospital care, and two developed bloodstream infections. Patients range in age from under one year to 90, with most cases identified since mid-July 2026.
Interviews with 114 patients linked 24 cases to five food businesses, and 95 people fell ill after eating out. The strain involved evolved from an earlier 2025 outbreak. No eggs are currently being recalled.
