Peter Christian Frølich, chair of the Norwegian parliament's foreign affairs and defence committee, has been hospitalized following a serious heart attack and is expected to be absent from the Storting for four to six weeks.
Frølich experienced severe chest pain during a training session on Saturday and was treated at Haukeland University Hospital in Bergen. He has urged members of the public to call emergency services immediately if they experience chest pain.
Frølich, a member of parliament representing Hordaland since 2013, assumed leadership of the foreign affairs and defence committee in March 2026. His extended absence will temporarily remove one of the legislature's most prominent voices on security and defence policy from parliamentary proceedings.
