Danish politician Morten Messerschmidt has expressed regret after hosting Vladislav Dajković, the leader of Montenegro's pro-Russian Free Montenegro party, for a meeting at Christiansborg parliament on Monday and wishing him victory in an Instagram video.
Dajković campaigns to lift Montenegro's sanctions on Russia, halt the country's EU accession, and withdraw from NATO. The visit drew sharp criticism from Defence Minister Jeppe Bruus, who condemned Messerschmidt for wishing Dajković success, while foreign affairs spokesperson Karsten Hønge called the meeting "completely against Denmark's interests."
Messerschmidt apologised and said he was unaware of Dajković's political positions, describing the tour as a private matter and acknowledging he should have conducted a background check. He stated he would be more cautious about whom he shows around parliament in the future, despite having previously declared his contempt for Putin in 2024.
