Two former Danish justice ministers have disclosed that Copenhagen faced specific terrorist threats during their tenures, details that had remained classified for years.
Then-Justice Minister Frank Jensen, who served from 1997 to 2001, faced a bomb threat at Parken stadium on May 17, 2000 during the UEFA Cup final between Arsenal and Galatasaray, attended by 40,000 fans. Jensen was instructed to lean back in his seat so security could extract him from the venue if necessary.
Former Justice Minister Brian Mikkelsen, who held the post from September 2008 to February 2010, revealed a direct terrorist threat against Nørreport Station in central Copenhagen during his time in office. Both politicians discussed the previously undisclosed threats in interviews with Danish broadcaster DR.
