Former Danish defense minister permits researchers to quote him in Afghanistan inquiry

· Politics DNK

Denmark's former Defence Minister Søren Gade has agreed to be quoted by name in an academic investigation into the nation's military involvement in Afghanistan. Gade, who served as defence minister from 2004 to 2010, has granted permission for researchers to declassify and cite his statements from confidential Foreign Policy Committee meetings.

The historical inquiry is being spearheaded by researchers at the Danish Institute for International Studies. It examines Denmark’s two-decade engagement in Afghanistan from 2001 to 2021, an era during which approximately 12,000 Danish military and civilian personnel were deployed and 44 Danes lost their lives.
