OSLO — Norway marked the 15th anniversary of the July 22 terror attacks on Wednesday with ceremonies in Oslo, after a national memorial was unveiled in the capital's government quarter over the weekend.
Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre addressed a memorial service in the city, while King Harald and Queen Sonja attended a cathedral service. Survivor networks, including the July 22 Support Group representing roughly 2,000 survivors and relatives, gathered for the commemorations.
The anniversary arrives amid renewed scrutiny of far-right sentiment in Norway. A June 2026 University of Oslo study found that 3 percent of Norwegians support far-right attitudes.
Breivik, convicted in 2012 of 77 counts of premeditated murder and sentenced to 21 years in prison with the possibility of extension, remains incarcerated at Ringerike prison.
