A Norwegian court will rule Monday on whether to extend the pre-trial detention of Marius Borg Høiby by four more weeks, following his conviction last month on charges including two counts of rape and domestic abuse. Høiby, who has been held since February 2026, was sentenced to four years in prison by the Oslo district court on June 15.
Prosecutors are seeking continued custody citing a risk of reoffending, particularly regarding potential contact with a woman in Frogner against whom Høiby is under a restraining order. The prosecution argues the risk of further offences remains too high to justify his release.
Høiby has appealed his convictions for rape and domestic violence, while the state prosecutor has appealed the length of the sentence. His defence lawyer Petar Sekulic has called the continued detention request difficult to understand and is seeking his release. An appellate hearing is expected in 2027.
