Michael Maze, the former Danish table tennis star who retired from competitive play in 2024, has been appointed head coach of Sweden's men's national table tennis team.
Maze will begin his tenure during October, working alongside current head coach Marcus Sjöberg in a transitional arrangement. He is set to take full charge of the squad from November, assuming sole responsibility for the national team's training and competition strategy.
The appointment marks a significant cross-border move in Scandinavian table tennis, with a prominent Danish player taking the reins of Sweden's men's programme. Maze ended his active playing career two years ago and now steps into one of the region's most high-profile coaching positions.
