Mohammad Asim Bashir, 31, has been sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 17 years for preparing an act of terrorism, following his role in a plot connected to the October 2025 Heaton Park Synagogue attack in Manchester.

Bashir drove accomplice Jihad Al-Shamie on a 10-hour round trip to conduct hostile reconnaissance at the UK Defence Academy in Shrivenham on 14 August 2025. The pair exchanged thousands of messages discussing violent jihad in a chat group established the previous year. Al-Shamie later killed Melvin Cravitz and Adrian Daulby during the synagogue attack on 2 October 2025, before being shot dead by police. Bashir was arrested at Manchester Airport on 27 November 2025 after returning from Pakistan.

Mrs Justice Cheema-Grubb rejected Bashir's claim that he had renounced extremism, describing him as a "firmly committed jihadist" who remains dangerous. Inquests into the victims' deaths are scheduled for spring 2027.
