Jürgen Klopp is poised to become the 13th head coach of Germany's national team after German Football Association president Bernd Neuendorf reached an agreement with Red Bull chief Oliver Mintzlaff at a summit in Munich on Monday, removing the final obstacles to Klopp's departure from his role as Red Bull's head of global soccer, a position he held under a contract running through 2029.
The vacancy arose when Julian Nagelsmann resigned on July 3 following Germany's early World Cup exit against Paraguay. Klopp had since signalled his willingness to take over, though his release from Red Bull required negotiation given his long-term contract with the company.
The new coach will have little time to settle in. Germany's first four matches of the season run from September 24 to October 4, featuring Nations League fixtures against the Netherlands, Greece, and Serbia. Nagelsmann had been earning seven million euros annually on a deal that was to run through Euro 2028.
