Italian businessman Valter Lavitola has admitted to masterminding a bomb attack on the home of journalist Sigfrido Ranucci, after his arrest last week on suspicion of ordering the October 2025 bombing in Pomezia, near Rome.
Lavitola's lawyer, Sergio Cola, said the attack was orchestrated to bolster Ranucci's security detail, while Lavitola denied allegations the motive was to enhance the journalist's public profile for a potential entry into politics. The blast on the night of 16 October destroyed two of Ranucci's cars but caused no injuries.
Lavitola, who was convicted in 2014 of attempted extortion against former prime minister Silvio Berlusconi, allegedly commissioned four suspects arrested in late June to carry out the attack.
