Italian entrepreneur Valter Lavitola was questioned on Wednesday by Rome prosecutors investigating a bomb attack outside the home of journalist Sigfrido Ranucci in October 2025.

Lavitola, 60, is accused of ordering the attack and faces charges of massacre with mafia aggravating circumstances. Investigators allege he tasked a waiter with obtaining explosives and detonating them outside Ranucci's residence in Pomezia, near Rome. A rudimentary bomb destroyed two cars and damaged the gate on 16 October 2025.

Four alleged accomplices were arrested last week as suspected material executors. Phones and computers were seized from Lavitola during searches on 4 July. Ranucci has described Lavitola as a close friend. The probe is led by Rome's anti-mafia directorate.
