Iraola urges Liverpool signings ahead of Premier League opener at Newcastle

· Sports GBR

Andoni Iraola has publicly urged Liverpool's executives to sign wingers before the transfer window closes in less than two weeks, with the club in talks over a move for Paris Saint-Germain forward Bradley Barcola.

The manager, who took over from Arne Slot this summer after guiding Bournemouth to a sixth-place finish, acknowledged the squad remains thin and said Liverpool will not wait long for results, taking on Newcastle United at St James' Park on Sunday in the Premier League's opening weekend. No replacement for Mohamed Salah has yet been signed, and Curtis Jones is due to join Inter Milan, though Iraola confirmed Cody Gakpo is in line to start despite Tottenham interest.

Liverpool finished fifth last season, 25 points behind champions Arsenal, with Newcastle, Manchester City, and Chelsea also under new management for 2026/27.
