A nine-year-old girl has died in hospital four days after a road crash in County Cavan that also killed her mother, Irish police said.
Irena Mereacre passed away at Temple Street Hospital in Dublin on Tuesday, having been seriously injured in the collision last Friday. Her mother, Nell Raven, 53, was pronounced dead at the scene. The crash involving their car and a flatbed van occurred after 4:30 p.m. on the R162 at Corclare, near Shercock, as the pair were returning from a dancing competition.
Raven, an English-born writer and journalist who had recently become an Irish citizen, was the driver of the car. Gardaí are continuing to investigate and have appealed for witnesses or dash-cam footage from the area between 4:15 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. on the day of the crash.
