Flávio Bolsonaro was formally nominated as the Liberal Party's presidential candidate at the party's national convention in São Paulo on Friday, with Argentine President Javier Milei in attendance.
The nomination follows a public reconciliation with Michelle Bolsonaro, who accepted his apology on Thursday after alleging mistreatment during a dispute over a Senate candidacy. Recent polls show Lula leading Flávio Bolsonaro 48% to 43% in a hypothetical second round ahead of the October 4 election, with Flávio's support weakened by rejection among female voters.
Flávio faces additional challenges: a Supreme Court probe into film financing involving his father Jair Bolsonaro, who was sentenced to 27 years in prison for plotting a coup after the 2022 election. The Workers' Party will officially nominate Lula in August.
