Brazil Supreme Court opens probe into funding of Bolsonaro biopic

· Politics BRA

Brazil's Supreme Court has authorised a federal police investigation into financial transfers linked to the production of Dark Horse, a biographical film about former president Jair Bolsonaro. Justice André Mendonça approved the inquiry on 23 July 2026 following a request by federal police backed by the attorney-general's office.

The probe focuses on approximately 61 million reais transferred by banker Daniel Vorcaro, former owner of Banco Master, between February and May 2025, and messages published by The Intercept suggesting coordination between Vorcaro and Senator Flávio Bolsonaro to raise up to 134 million reais. Investigators are examining whether some funds were routed through US accounts and used to cover expenses of Eduardo Bolsonaro.

Vorcaro is separately implicated in an alleged 10-billion-dollar banking fraud. The investigation was initially requested by federal deputy Lindbergh Farias.
