Brazil's Supreme Federal Court has suspended Senator Flávio Bolsonaro's prison visits to his father for 90 days, a ruling that blocks contact between the two until mid-October, after the first round of general elections. Justice Alexandre de Moraes issued the order on Sunday after Flávio Bolsonaro posted a letter on social media in which former President Jair Bolsonaro endorsed his son's presidential pre-candidacy.
The ruling could affect Flávio Bolsonaro's campaign, as he will not be authorised to see his father until after the October vote. Moraes gave Jair Bolsonaro 48 hours to explain whether he knew the letter would be published online. The case has been referred to the Electoral Public Prosecutor's Office for possible action given the electoral period.
Jair Bolsonaro is serving a 27-year sentence under house arrest in Brasília for his role in a coup plot and criminal organisation following his 2022 electoral defeat.
