Brazil's party convention season opened on Monday, beginning a two-week window in which parties must formalize their candidates for the October general elections. The Liberal Party, led by Flávio Bolsonaro, will hold its assembly on 25 July, while President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva's Workers' Party is scheduled to convene on 2 August. All nominations must be submitted to the Superior Electoral Court by 5 August.
The TSE reported that 158,745,463 voters will be eligible for the first round on 4 October, with a potential runoff on 25 October. The electorate grew 1.46% since 2022, adding 2.29 million voters — a figure exceeding the 2.13 million-vote margin by which Lula defeated Jair Bolsonaro in the 2022 runoff.
Women comprise 52.84% of eligible voters, and the indigenous electorate surged 84.47%. The overseas electorate jumped 31.82%, while youth participation declined.
