COPENHAGEN — A 23-year-old prisoner convicted of violent crime escaped police custody on July 20, 2026, during a transfer from Copenhagen Airport bound for Greenland, triggering a manhunt across the Danish capital before his recapture hours later.
The man, who was last seen Monday morning near Tivoli in central Copenhagen, is described as 172 centimetres tall and was wearing a cap, dark jacket, green and brown hoodie, dark trousers, and black-and-white shoes. Police initially urged the public to call 114 and avoid direct contact with the fugitive.
Officers apprehended the man roughly four hours after the escape, according to an update issued at 11:56 local time, ending the search. He was being transported to Greenland to serve his sentence for personal-danger offences at the time of the incident.
