An elderly cyclist is in critical condition after falling from the Knippelsbro bascule bridge in Copenhagen on Saturday while attempting to cross as the bridge leaves were being raised.
The man, approximately 70 years old and riding an electric bicycle toward Amager, fell roughly two metres onto the opposing bridge leaf. Copenhagen police responded to the scene, and the bridge was closed in both directions for nearly an hour before reopening around 15:30 local time.
The incident occurred on the afternoon of 11 July 2026. Authorities have not released further details on the man's identity or the circumstances that led him onto the bridge during its opening sequence.
