A 33-year-old man has been arrested in Copenhagen on suspicion of raping a 17-year-old girl more than two years ago, after DNA evidence provided a breakthrough in the long-running investigation.

The suspect was detained at 20:51 on Tuesday evening on the island of Amager in a joint operation between Copenhagen West Police and Copenhagen Police. He is accused of attacking the teenager in a driveway on Damhus Boulevard in Rødovre at approximately 02:30 on March 16, 2024.

Prosecutors will seek to have the man remanded in custody at a hearing before Glostrup District Court on Wednesday, with the prosecution requesting the session be held behind closed doors. The arrest comes more than two years after the alleged assault, which has remained under active investigation since the early hours of that March night.
