Crown Prince Haakon visited the burned-out ruins of Krokstadelva in Drammen on Sunday after a wildfire destroyed more than 100 homes and displaced hundreds of residents in what the Directorate for Civil Protection called the largest blaze of its kind in Norway's modern recorded history.
No fatalities were reported in the fire, which broke out on Friday and forced more than 400 people to evacuate. Police believe the blaze was caused by an accident or spontaneous combustion, and no one is suspected or charged with any criminal offence.
Embers remained a concern on Sunday, with police warning that glowing debris could spread with the wind. Fire services plan to reassess the area on Monday, and Drammen municipality will open a resident service centre at Stenseth School from 9 a.m. Monday. Undamaged homes will be returned to occupants gradually, police said.
