The head of the lung department, Are Holm, described her condition as good given the circumstances. The princess will undergo six months of rehabilitation with pulmonary physiotherapy and rigorous checks for rejection and infection before her condition is expected to stabilise. In a statement, Mette-Marit thanked her family and medical staff and highlighted the importance of organ donation, a message that has driven a marked rise in organ donor registrations across Norway.
Crown Prince Haakon expressed relief at his wife's return home and will adjust his schedule to support her. The Royal Household shared a photograph of the princess on 6 July, her first public appearance since the operation. She will suspend official duties during recovery.
