Chelsea sign France forward Melvine Malard from Manchester United for club-record fee

Chelsea have completed the signing of France forward Melvine Malard from Manchester United on a four-year contract for a fee reported at about £850,000, a club-record sale for a female player at Manchester United.

The 26-year-old had one year remaining on her contract, prompting United to sell rather than risk losing her on a free transfer next summer. Malard scored six goals in 18 Women's Super League matches and four in the Champions League last season, and helped United win the Women's FA Cup. She has also scored 14 goals in 41 appearances for France.

Malard is Chelsea's third arrival of the summer, joining Katie McCabe and Manaka Matsukubo. She previously played under Chelsea manager Sonia Bompastor at Lyon. The club is reshaping its attack after Sam Kerr's departure to Gotham FC.
