Brazil's PSB formalizes Alckmin as vice-presidential candidate on Lula's ticket

The Brazilian Socialist Party formally nominated Geraldo Alckmin as its vice-presidential candidate on the ticket led by Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva at a ceremony in Brasília on Wednesday evening, positioning the alliance ahead of the general elections in October 2026.

Alckmin, who stepped down as minister of industry and trade in April to pursue the campaign, now awaits the formal confirmation of his running mate. Lula's Workers' Party is due to officially ratify his candidacy at its national convention in Brasília on 2 August.

The PSB-PT partnership echoes the coalition that carried the pair to victory in 2022, though the formal vice-presidential nomination had to be renewed for the new electoral cycle.
