Brazil recalls ambassador to Argentina after Milei insults Lula and top judge

Brazil has recalled its ambassador to Argentina for consultations in a sharp diplomatic response to Argentine President Javier Milei's attack on Brazilian leaders during a visit to São Paulo.

While attending a Liberal Party convention on Friday, Milei referred to President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva as a convict and accused him of spreading socialism across Latin America, while also denouncing Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes as bald garbage. The event marked the launch of Flávio Bolsonaro's candidacy ahead of Brazil's October general election.

Supreme Court President Edson Fachin condemned the remarks as disrespectful references directed at a sitting magistrate. The Foreign Ministry summoned Ambassador Julio Bitelli to Brasília on Saturday, escalating tensions between South America's two largest economies.
