Bolivian prosecutors have issued an arrest warrant for former president Evo Morales, accusing him of terrorism, armed uprising and criminal association over road blockades that paralysed the country in May and June 2026.
The warrant, issued by the Santa Cruz departmental prosecutor's office, is linked to an investigation into dozens of roadblocks that left at least 16 people dead and caused more than $3 billion in economic losses. The protests triggered severe shortages of fuel, food and medical supplies in several cities, according to Attorney General Roger Mariaca.
Morales has been sheltering in the Chapare region of Cochabamba since October 2024, guarded by supporters, to evade a separate arrest warrant over aggravated human trafficking allegations involving a minor.
