A body has been discovered in Romania's Bucegi Mountains during the search for George Smyth, an 18-year-old British geology student who went missing while trekking near Bran Castle last November. Avon and Somerset Police said the remains, found in the Bucegi Mountain region, are believed to be those of Smyth.
Smyth, a student at the University of Bristol, disappeared on November 23 while hiking from Poiana Brașov toward the village of Bran. He placed an emergency call from the Țigănești Valley before losing contact.
The extensive search and rescue operation involved Romanian Salvamont mountain rescuers, canine units, thermal imaging drones, and a Black Hawk helicopter. Formal identification is pending.
