Arteta enters final year of Arsenal contract ahead of Community Shield clash

Mikel Arteta is relaxed about his Arsenal contract expiring at the end of the new season as he prepares to lead the Premier League champions against Manchester City in the Community Shield on Sunday in Cardiff.

Arteta, who signed a three-year contract extension in September 2024, is now the Premier League's longest-serving manager having joined Arsenal in December 2019. He led the club to their first Premier League title in 22 years last season, though they lost to Paris St-Germain in the Champions League final.

Arsenal have been active in the transfer market, signing Bruno Guimaraes, Christos Tzolis, and Piero Hincapie for a combined £143.5m, plus Illan Meslier on a free transfer. The club has opened negotiations with Bayer Leverkusen over Jarell Quansah as a defensive option. Leandro Trossard, Jakub Kiwior, and Christian Norgaard have departed, while the club missed out on Vinícius Júnior, who signed a new deal with Real Madrid.
