Apple negotiates nine-figure deals with publishers to power AI-driven Siri

· Technology USABELIDNITA

Apple is in talks with major news publishers to secure real-time content for its artificial intelligence-enhanced Siri, proposing a nine-figure budget spanning several hundred million dollars over multiple years to license reporting for the assistant.

The company has contacted publishers with a variable compensation model tied to actual content usage, departing from the fixed licensing fees common in similar industry agreements. The push comes as Apple prepares to release Siri's AI overhaul alongside iOS 27 later this year, a rollout first announced at WWDC 2024 that has faced a two-year delay. Apple is also working with Google to develop the Gemini AI model underpinning the new Siri.

The AI features will not launch on iPhones in Europe, with little indication of an agreement with the European Commission. Apple has partnered with publishers on its Apple News+ subscription service since 2019.
