OpenAI filed a 31-page motion in federal court seeking dismissal of Apple's trade secrets lawsuit, calling the allegations baseless and arguing the complaint was drafted without adequate investigation.
Apple accused OpenAI and two former employees of stealing trade secrets to accelerate its entry into the consumer hardware market. OpenAI countered that the suit is vague and is designed to offset Apple's shortcomings in the talent market and AI integration. The AI firm notes that more than 400 former Apple employees now work at OpenAI and accused Apple of failing to secure its own data.
Apple has sought a preliminary injunction to block use of the alleged secrets, with a hearing set for October 1 before federal judge Edward J. Davila. The dispute centers on OpenAI's planned hardware device reportedly designed with Jony Ive's studio, as the AI company prepares for an IPO valued at roughly $852 billion.
