Volkswagen Group delivered 2.08 million vehicles worldwide in the second quarter of 2026, a drop of nearly 9 percent from a year earlier, dragged down by a steep collapse in Chinese demand. Sales in China plunged more than a third to 424,300 units, with rival German automakers Mercedes-Benz and BMW also posting double-digit declines in the region.
The core Volkswagen brand saw deliveries slide 14 percent to 1.02 million units, while Porsche and Audi both posted significant losses. Skoda was a rare bright spot, gaining nearly 5 percent. Deliveries in North America and Western Europe edged higher.
Electric vehicle demand in Europe offered a counterweight: the order backlog for battery-electric models rose more than 50 percent from late 2025, and the group's new entry-level EVs drew over 54,000 reservations. Volkswagen has announced plans to cut up to half its model lineup in response to the downturn.
