Volkswagen Group plans to slash its global model portfolio by up to 50 percent and trim options lists on surviving models by up to 75 percent, the automaker announced with immediate effect. Chief Executive Oliver Blume presented 12 initiatives and a strategic vision for 2030 to the supervisory board, targeting an annual production capacity of roughly 9 million vehicles.
The restructuring may also reshape Volkswagen's brand portfolio, with the company considering spinning off or selling Lamborghini and Ducati. On the industrial front, the group is reportedly weighing up to 100,000 job cuts and the closure of up to four German factories, with Hannover, Emden, Zwickau, and Neckarsulm named as sites at risk.
The scale of the proposed workforce reduction exceeds earlier guidance: Volkswagen had signaled around 50,000 job cuts in Germany by 2030 as recently as March 2026.
