BMW reclaimed the No. 2 position in Germany's electric vehicle market in the second quarter of 2026, registering more than 19,000 new battery-electric cars and leapfrogging rivals Skoda, Tesla and Mercedes-Benz after sitting in fifth place at the end of the first quarter.

Volkswagen retained the top spot with 25,600 registrations over the same April–June period. Tesla, which slashed prices on the Model 3 and Model Y by several thousand euros around the turn of the year, sold roughly one and a half times as many cars in Germany in the first half of 2026 as it did in all of 2025, recording about 16,000 registrations in the second quarter alone.

Further down the rankings, BYD slipped from 12th to 13th place, while Leapmotor climbed from 18th to 15th, underscoring shifting fortunes among Chinese manufacturers in Europe's largest auto market.
