The United States launched a new round of military strikes against Iran early Sunday, marking the third wave of American attacks on Iranian targets this week. The operations, which began at 01:15 Central European Time, follow an escalation in the Strait of Hormuz.
The strikes were triggered after the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps attacked the Cyprus-flagged container vessel MV GFS Galaxy in the strategic waterway. The IRGC claimed it had fired warning shots at a ship using an unapproved route, but the vessel sustained an onboard fire and severe engine room damage, leaving one civilian crew member missing. Explosions were also reported on the Iranian island of Qeshm.
Iran has closed the Strait of Hormuz until further notice, a chokepoint critical to global oil shipments, deepening concerns over energy supply disruptions.
