The US military insisted Iran does not control the strait, noting that US Central Command has escorted more than 800 commercial ships and 380 million barrels of crude through the waterway since early May. Washington dismissed Iranian state media claims that transit is restricted to Tehran-designated routes. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Navy countered that ongoing US strikes are obstructing a gradual reopening of the waterway. Qatar is mediating between Washington and Tehran over the dispute.
Iran's foreign ministry denied seeking negotiations with the US, though Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi is expected to meet Oman's counterpart in Muscat on July 11 to discuss the Hormuz crisis.
